Our Weekend At Deep Water Vineyard

For Christmas, Tay surprised me with a full weekend in Seabrook Island and day at Deep Water Vineyard. I had been wanting to try Deep Water Vineyard since we moved here because it’s Charleston’s only winery. Deep Water Vineyard is around 30-40 minutes outside of Charleston in an area called Wadmalaw Island. It’s a super easy day trip from Charleston, so you definitely don’t need to spend the night!

To start our trip, we headed to Kinfolk for lunch, a Southern-style eatery with smoked meats, pulled pork & fried chicken dished that should not be missed. It was seriously delicious and worth every bite. I ordered their traditional crispy chicken sandwich and Tay got the Lamar, which was crispy chicken with an asian slaw. Honestly, both were so good and had amazing flavors! So if you go with someone else, defiantly try two different things!

Next, we headed to our hotel, The Andell Inn. The Andell Inn is only 3 minutes from Kinfolk on Seabrook island and is located right on the water. If you can, request a room with a view! It will be so worth it at sunset. Unfortunately, The Andell Inn is about 25 minutes from Deep Water Vineyard. Due to the way the islands are in Charleston, the driving can take a little longer than expected.

Deep Water Vineyard is tucked back off the road on a very large property with tons of trees and even some water. You don’t need tickets to visit the vineyard, but there is limited seating. We went in the dead of winter (January), and it was actually packed with people, so I can only imagine what it is like during the summer months. Once you get there, you can decide if you want to do a tasting or just order glasses. Tastings happen every 30 minutes, so if you want to do one, I suggest putting your name down right when you get there. The tasting is defiantly worth the money. It’s $10 for a tasting of 6 1 oz pours.

TIPS FOR DEEP WATER VINEYARD:

  • For winter months, I highly suggest trying the mulled wine - it’s delicious!

  • Try something out of your comfort zone! The mead was also pretty good. I liked their orange blossom flavor, it was light and not too sweet.

  • Go on a Saturday for live music from 12 - 4pm.

  • Try to go during summer, or if you go in winter - bundle up!

Once done with Deep Water Vineyard, we headed back to the hotel to clean up before dinner. I suggest making a reservation ahead of time if you are planning to stay on Seabrook Island. We made the mistake of not having a reservations, so it was a little limited on where we could get in. We ended up eating at 48 Wine Bar, which was actually great and was perfect for our wine weekend.

The next day, on our way out of town, we stopped at Hemingway - right next to Kinfolk for coffee and breakfast. I loved this spot and got the avocado toast - it was really tasty!
